“CinéDOC-Tbilisi 2014” was the first edition of the first international documentary film festival in the Caucasus region. The cinemas were always full to the brink during almost all screenings, the Q&A sessions after the movies were very lively and clearly indicated the interest coming from the large audience. The festival had several sections: International Competition, Focus Caucasus, CinéDOC-Young, Georgian Panorama, and the Workshop: DocStories Georgia. Additionally we organized a conference “Focus Caucasus” during which we have initiated tailor-made cooperation models with the participants and we launched the“Caucasus Documentary Network”, a network of festivals and film organizations that will promote films from the Caucasus region.
The creation of the “Caucasus Documentary Network” was actively encouraged by European Documentary Network director Paul Pauwels, who has expressed all his support in promotion matters at European level. Among the international guests and documentary professionals who have attended the festival in 2014 were: Tue Steen Mueller (documentary expert, Denmark), Emilie Kleinmann (Arte-France), Uldis Cekulis (producer, Latvia), Hans-Robert Eisenhauer (producer, Germany), Irena Taskovski (sales agent, UK), Peter Symes (producer, UK), Isabel Arrate Fernandez (The Netherlands, IDFA), Matthea de Jong (Movies that Matter, The Netherlands), Victoria Belopolskaya (Art-DOC Fest, Moscow), Marina Drozdova (TV Kultura, Flahertiana Documentary Festival), and many other filmmakers, documentary professionals and festival representatives.
