In 1984, at the very beginning of perestroika in the USSR, a group of architects decided to organize a one-night music band as a joke at a New Year’s Party in Kaunas, Lithuania. The joke turned into the exciting rock band, Antis. Their make-up, stylized aesthetic, and controversial lyrics created a caricature of the Soviet propaganda, discrediting the absurdities of the Soviet reality. Soon their intellectual clownery grew into the Rock Marches - massive events involving thousands of people - that transformed into the big meetings for Lithuanian Independence later named the Singing Revolution.
